Adan Fontalvo Boys Assistant Coach

Southwest Futbol Club

SFC encourages players of all skill levels to play the beautiful game of soccer from recreational to premier. SFC understands that not all players can commit to a vigorous premier skill level or schedule and others need more time to develop. Players can continue playing the game they love in our developmental program. SFC will allow them to play games and tournaments against opponents of equal skill levels while receiving top-notch training at practice so they can progress to the next level. SFC will provide all players with excellent technical & tactical training while implementing the Progressive Method of Coaching. This involves evaluating individual strengths, weaknesses and a plan that results in individual progression in a team environment. Besides learning tremendous moves and skills our players will learn and understand the game and be able to further their career in high school and college. Michael Jordan didn't make his freshman basketball team. SFC knows, like Jordan, there are players out there that haven’t reached their full potential!

SFC is also a Club that supports education in our players, Players need to keep a passing grade in school in order to participate with his or her team. SFC stands by this method because this helps our players to be the best not just on the field but in a class room. SFC requires to see all their players report cards and or progress reports from school every marking period to insure that the school grades are at the level the need to be so they can be successful in the present and in the future of their lives.

Coaches Bios

Rocco D'Arcangelo-Head Coach U15 Girls

I have 10 plus years coaching experience in Girl's Soccer, Softball, and Basketball.  I have had success winning championships in all three sports by utilizing the Progressive Method of Coaching.  This involves evaluating team and individual strengths and weaknesses then implementing a plan that results in individual progression in a team environment.

I grew up in a soccer family where my father owned and managed a semi-professional team which included CT Hall-of-Famer Joe Barroso who later went on to play for the U.S. National Team and is currently the Head Coach at Sacred Heart University.  Born in Italy and raised in both Italy and Brazil is how my father came up with the Italian/Brazilian Method.  My Brazilian method of coaching was also enhanced by my long-standing relationship with RNUNES Soccer Academy.  In 1994 I was invited to watch several of the Italian National Team practices .  In the fall of 2009, I volunteered with The Sacred Heart University Mens Team.  Besides holding a CT coaching license, I mentored under two former Brazil National team players.

In the last two years, 5 out of 5 position players while playing for me were selected to the CT ODP/YDP covering three different age groups.

My goal as a coach is not win win.  I try to schedule games I know we can win to install confidence, some that we will lose to challenge the kids and some that we may tie.  Our practices are run efficiently to get the maximum # of touches on the ball.  Besides tremendous moves and foot skills were are developing decision-makers on the field as opposed to robots.  We encourage our girls to be creative.  We do everything we can to train the kids technically so they will have the self-confidence to excel as individuals in a team environment.  Overlapping, 1 2's, diagonal runs, and thru balls will be a team focus this season. We have monthly team-building activities to help with group cohesiveness.

The team consists of players from Monroe, Trumbull, Shelton, Redding, Easton, Weston, Fairfield, Milford, and Bridgeport.  The club’s focus is to build great players, not a big bank balance.  Fees for players able to make the team will be minimal.  The club also believes in fundraising efforts to help defray costs.

Coach Peter Rivera-Head Coach U13 Boys, U16-U19 Boys and Girls

I have 18 years coaching experience in Girls’ Soccer and 3 years in Boys I have my E-License and State D-License, I have been successful in winning championships and also finishing as semi-finalist. I coach and train my team to be respectful players on and off the field, win or lose to their opponent’s, adults and officials. I teach and train the players in progression, foot skills, physical fitness and passing, thru balls, possessing the ball, overlapping runs, and opening up the playing field.

My goal as a Coach is to teach the kids that winning is not everything, I arrange friendly games so that the team can win, lose and draw and give them the different levels of competition and so they can balance themselves as a team with their progress in games.

The team consists of players from Norwalk, Stratford and Bridgeport. The club’s focus is to build great players and form a strong team. Team Fees for players who make the team will be minimal. I also believe in Team Fundraisers to help lower some costs for team and players.
